The 24 Hour Rule
What to do and not do After your Sugaring appointment
You just got sugared… smooth, fresh, glowing.
Now what?
What you do in the first 24 hours after your appointment plays a huge role in how your skin looks and feels in the days that follow.
Breakouts, irritation, or ingrown hairs aren’t usually caused by the sugaring itself…
they’re often the result of what happens after.
Why the First 24 Hours Matter
After a sugaring treatment, your skin is in a more sensitive state.
- Hair has been removed from the follicle
- The skin has been lightly exfoliated
- Pores are more open than usual
- The area is more reactive to heat, friction, and bacteria
This is completely normal… but it does mean your skin needs a little extra care.
Think of it as a short window where your skin is more vulnerable — and how you treat it matters.
What to Avoid (Just for 24 Hours)
Sweat + Friction
We know… the gym is calling.
But sweating and movement create heat and friction on freshly treated skin, which can lead to irritation and clogged pores.
Give your skin a day to recover before jumping back in.
Tight Clothing
Tight leggings, jeans, or anything restrictive can trap heat and rub against the skin.
This increases irritation and can contribute to ingrown hairs.
Loose, breathable clothing is your best friend here.
Touching the Area
It’s tempting — we get it.
But touching freshly sugared skin transfers bacteria and can lead to breakouts or irritation.
Try to leave the area alone as much as possible.
Heat + Water Exposure
Hot tubs, baths, steam rooms, and long hot showers can expose your skin to bacteria and increase sensitivity.
Stick to quick, lukewarm showers if needed.
Harsh Products
Avoid deodorants, perfumes, or any products with alcohol or strong fragrance on the treated area.
These can irritate freshly exfoliated skin.
Sun Exposure
Your skin is more sensitive to the sun right after sugaring.
If you’re heading outside, be mindful and use SPF where appropriate.
What You Should Do Instead
Keep it simple. The goal is to support your skin while it settles.
Keep the Area Clean + Calm
Using a gentle, antibacterial mist (like SugarSMAC Tonic) can help reduce bacteria and soothe the skin after your appointment.
Lightly Hydrate (If Needed)
If your skin feels dry, use a lightweight, non-comedogenic lotion.
Avoid anything heavy or heavily fragranced.
Wear Loose, Comfortable Clothing
Let your skin breathe and recover without added friction.
Be Gentle
Skip exfoliating for 24–48 hours. After that, you can gently reintroduce it to help prevent ingrown hairs.
The Bottom Line
Sugaring gives you smooth, long-lasting results… but aftercare is what keeps your skin looking its best.
A little care in the first 24 hours can mean:
- fewer breakouts
- less irritation
- smoother regrowth
- better overall results
You don’t need to overthink it… just be kind to your kin.
